Brass Castle Blue Bell House IPA

ales&pies-body-area-ale-bluebell-ipa

Our very own House IPA is exclusive to The Blue Bell. Fruity and hoppy with a long, dry finish, this is a traditional IPA for a traditional pub. John and Shannon created the beer with much-appreciated (and needed!) help from Kev, Sam and Andy at Brass Castle brewery in early 2021. Since then the Blue Bell House IPA has attracted a cult following from all over the world.

Widely regarded as the best IPA available in York and a favourite of staff and regulars alike, this IPA will take you back to a time before the USA latched on to the IPA style. It’s such a delightful beer that we have a saying behind the bar: “If you don’t like it, you’re wrong!”

(All Brass Castle beers are gluten free and vegan friendly - please feel free to ask about our other GF and vegan drinks).

Timothy Taylor's Landlord

ales&pies-body-area-ale-landlord

Timothy Taylor’s Landlord has won more awards than any beer ever brewed in the UK.

Well balanced and light amber in colour, this delicious ale certainly needs no introduction! The Blue Bell is proud to be a member of Timothy Taylor’s Champion’s Club – a highly sought-after award from the brewery that recognises our preparation and serving of Landlord as being one of the best in the country. It takes two weeks from ordering Landlord to pouring the first pint – we think the hard work and dedication to this beer is more than worth it!

Bradfield Farmer’s Blonde

ales&pies-body-area-ale-farmersblonde

A favourite of many regulars in The Blue Bell, Bradfield’s Farmer’s Blonde is an award winning, very pale blonde beer that has hints of summer fruit aromas. It’s perfect for a proper session or a cheeky afternoon tipple. But beware – it’s very moreish and afternoons can quickly turn into evenings when enjoying Farmer’s Blonde in great company!

“It’s an honest pint to enjoy
after an honest day’s work”

Wold Top Bitter

ales&pies-body-area-ale-woldtop

We searched far and wide to find a suitable Bitter, holding a competition back in 2018 to find the best Session Bitter we could. Wold Top came out head and shoulders above the rest with their flagship ale. Wold Top Bitter is a light amber coloured, crisp, clean and aromatic session bitter. Home grown Barley malt and Northdown hops give an unusually full flavour and a long hoppy finish for its abv.

Rudgate Ruby Mild

ales&pies-body-area-ale-rubymild

If you are a fan of the darker ales in life then this one’s for you! A permanent beer since John took over in 2015, Rudgate’s Ruby Mild is a multi award-winning, nutty, deeply rich and satisfying ruby ale. Such is our Master Cellarman’s dedication to quality that during the summer months he has an arrangement with Rudgate to buy the beer in 4.5 gallon ‘poly pins’. Although this means more cellar work, we think its well worth it to keep this wonderful Mild fresh all year round.
